Our custom solutions team was asked to reimagine the current NBA Social Media Leaderboard to create a more forward-thinking look & feel including customizations, sponsorship areas, and modes for special events like the All Star Game and the Finals. This fully responsive webpage was used to connect NBA digital properties and platforms with all users in one place.

PROBLEM / CHALLENGE
  • Update UI to match NBA.com style guide
  • Give active NBA fans a platform & encourage Social Media posts / activity
  • Add new features, functionality, & improve mobile UX

OUTCOMES

RANKING GRID SECTION

The main focus on the Social Pulse was to show the top 25 Players and Personalities and see how and why they were trending. It also encouraged fans to join the conversation.

Once a player is clicked, this detailed view shows social mentions per hour, tweets per minute, fan sentiment, specific social content and the opportunity to join the conversation immediately.

SEARCH FUNCTIONALITY

While the top 25 Players and Personalities were featured on the Grid, others could be found using a “smart search” which could find them quickly and easily.

BIG MOMENTS SECTION

This section focused on recent Big Moments in games of the week such as buzzer beaters, trades and more. It allowed Users to see what they may have missed and chime in on their favorites.

GLOBAL TRENDS HEAT MAP

This Heat Map visualized the Social Chatter about the NBA and Players and aggregated them over time. They tended to coincide with games in progress, significant wins or controversies. This could be viewed by custom periods of time.

TRENDING TEAM

This section featured the hottest teams in the NBA based on their Social Media mentions. It allowed click-thrus to see some of the posts and key topics.
